Escapes ~ Foreground Eclipse

This is one of the (many) songs I have never translated because there were already too many translations or something. Anyway, it’s time for me to start translating all the songs I never translated back there even though I love them.

Notes

  1. I’ve been thinking a lot about who this phrase is referring to -and thus, how I should be translating it. In the end, I don’t have an answer. I don’t know who this “other you” is. It might be the other person who is kind of asking questions (tell me why, why you look so jaded etc.), but even if, I am not even sure this “you” is an actual person. This is all open to interpretations. This said, we (my wife and I) even thought that maybe the structure of the phrase should be read in a different way (resulting thus in “you, my only/dear one, take me out”) but that would be, according to her, “incredibly unlikely and unnatural”.
  2. The meaning is more like something similar to “where did the truth go”, but I think translating it in this way is cooler. Also, there is no “now” in the Japanese text.
  3. Given that it’s not clarified what has been lost, and given that the first line of the song is “I close myself in (my) room”, I believe the narrator/protagonist lost themselves rather than something/other things/everything. I really believe this whole song is about an internal/emotional conflict that eventually ends with the narrator/protagonist to cut themselves and wishing to be helped – but at the same time, they are not asking for help. Maybe one day I should write a post or two about my interpretation on FgE’s songs.

Escapes

Tell me why!
Why you look so jaded like you’re dead!
Never say!
Never pretend that you’re alright! So,
Tell me why!
Why you look so jaded like you’re dead!
Never say!
Never pretend that you’re alright!

Tell me why!
Why you look so jaded like you’re dead!
Never say!
Never pretend that you’re alright! So,
Tell me why!
Why you look so jaded like you’re dead!
Never say!
Never pretend that you’re alright!

me no mae ni aru kurayami kara nigete kanjou wo koroshite
ao no heya ni kagi wo kakete tojikomotta

I ran from the darkness in front of me and suppressed my feelings
I shut the door and closed myself inside my blue room

(Tell me)1

kakushita kokoro kizutsuketa kono ude
mou hitori no kimi tsuredashite (Tell me)

I hid my heart and cut my arms
My other you, take me out1 (Tell me)

Tell me why!
Why you look so jaded like you’re dead!
Never say!
Never pretend that you’re alright! So,
Tell me why!
Why you look so jaded like you’re dead!
Never say!
Never pretend that you’re alright!

“Save me…!”

muishiki no kaihou sono koui wa kairaku he no michijirushi
shinjitsu no yukue boku wa doko he ikeba ii

I let my unconscious free and that leads me to pleasure
What is true? Where do I go now?2

nakushita basho de mou ichido kizutsukete
itami sae mo wasurete

I cut myself once again where I lost myself3
And I forget even the pain

(Tell me why, why you look so jaded like a dead)
(Tell me why, just tell me why)

kanashimi wo koete sakebitsudzuketa
mou hitori no kimi tsuredashite (Tell me)

I overcame my sadness and kept screaming
My other you, take me out (Tell me)
